David Bowie – Right (Leon Sweet Extended re-edit)
This has got to be my favourite Bowie track and at just over 4 minutes long I wanted an extended version that I could mix into a DJ set.
This is from Bowie’s Sigma Sound era and from the album Young Americans which had John Lennon and Paul McCartney co-writing some of the other songs on the album but for me this is the stand out track.
It was also the B-side to Fame and interestingly Right was never performed live by Bowie.
With the vocal arrangement co written with a young Luther Vandross, who also sang backing vocals, and I think Andy Newmark of Sly & The Family Stone drumming (not sure about this, I know he drummed on some of the other tracks on Young Americans) it oozes funk and soul famous in Philadelphia in the early 70’s.
I wanted to keep my re-edit faithful to the original with the respect it deserves so spent time working on the groove adding new beats and percussion, the arrangement and the overall sound. I’ve also detuned it to 432Hz. If you’ve not heard about 440Hz vs 432Hz go check it out on Google, a fascinating subject and personally I’m still experimenting but so far I like what I’m hearing.
I hope you dig what i’ve done and feel free to share and comment. 😉
